What is my job here?

• Research on ``Wp Smoothing'' , statistical computing , robustness, projection pursuit, time-series,...
• Teaching "Lehraufträge" these classes:
  • Graphische u. Rechenintensive Methoden der Datenanalyse (WS 01/02) every 2nd year.
  • Further, `Blocks' in the Nachdiplomkurs Angewandte Statistik
  Earlier, I've also taught,
  • Statistische Methoden (WS 96/97) alternatingly with
  • Stochastische Fallbeispiele für Ingenieure in the summer.
• Helping other people in many different ways.
  1. Statistical consulting, particularly for engineers.
  2. (Unix) Software maintenance and users consulting, notably about
     • R, the `` GNU implementation'' of S.
     • S-plus,
     • Emacs ,
     • ESS, ``Emacs Speaks Statistics'' , which has evolved from former S-mode , and
     • LaTeX ,
     • By the way, Stop sending e-mail with HTML formatting (and leave off the MS Word attachments too.)
• Emacs-Lisp hacker who adds all the extra keys to the Seminar for Statistics Linux and SUN Sparcstations keyboards.
• Running the free Unix Linux on my PC(s) at home, since 1995, and at work since 1999. Some say Linux is not just free, it's priceless
• Since I've used to use Perl scripts, many things have become easy (or at least fun ;-), e.g., a list of the Math professors at ETHZ produced with perl.

What is my real life ?

• I am happily married with Lilo (Liselotte), since September 24, 1983.
  We have two boys, Andreas (31.March 1985), and Philipp (2.Dec.1986).
  Since Dec.1999, you can contact my parents electronically.
• As a strongly believing Christian (which I became as a student through aquaintances with ``Campus''),
  I am engaged in our local Church, and the Dozentenforum, and sometimes learning from LeadershipUniversity,
• I like music -- classical (baroque through romantic), old Jazz, Country, especially blue-grass, boogie-woogie, ...
• I like reading --- from News- to technical papers, from classic novels to science fiction and Asterix...
• I am playing chess (quite well, ELO 1890), however quite rarely, nowadays,.... since, I rather play (other) games with my family and friends, instead.
• As an outdoor person, I like sports such as running or jogging, cross country skying (even the Engadin Skimarathon), and also "simple" hiking or biking...
