Moment maps, equivariant cohomology, and their applications

Abstract: The course will consist of two parts. In the introductory part, we'll cover the following topics:
1) Elementary symplectic geometry and the Moser trick.
2) Group actions on symplectic manifolds, moment maps.
3) Equivariant cohomology and localization formulas.

In the more advanced part of the course, we'll apply our basic techniques to the following questions:
a) Group valued moment maps and twisted cohomology.
b) Witten's formulas for intersection pairings on the moduli spaces of flat connections over 2-manifolds.
c) Kashiwara-Vergne conjecture in Lie theory, Thompson conjecture in linear algebra.
