Computational electromagnetics in time domain

The fundamental theory for the numerical approximation of Maxwell's equations will be presented. We shall discuss finite difference, finite element and finite volume methods for the equations in time domain. We shall also consider hybrid techniques combining different methods. There will be special emphasis on the derivation of subgrid-scale models, which may be needed for thin wires, slots and material interfaces. Time domain boundary integral formulations have recently attracted renewed interest because of the possibility of using fast methods. We shall consider them, for example, in the context of radiation boundary conditions. Other techniques for radiation boundary conditions will also be studied. Some examples from antenna design, radar cross section analysis and wave guide simulations will be discussed.
