Mathematics Competitions at ETH

Upcoming Events

Seminar 'Topics in Competition Mathematics'

I am giving a new Seminar (4 ECTS) called 'Topics in Competition Mathematics' in FS26.
Here is the VVZ entry. The course is now fully booked - let me know if you are interested in taking the seminar in FS27.
Here is the course website where all of the course material will be published.

Mathematics Olympiad Club

The Math Olympiad Club is an official ETH student club that hosts weekly sessions to work on competition problems together.
In FS26, the club meets every Wednesday 18:00 at HG F26.5. Meetings are open to everyone.

IMC - International Mathematics Competition for University Students

The IMC is one of the largest and most prestigious mathematics competitions at the university-level. It is usually held in Bulgaria in early August.

In 2025, ETH sent a full team to the IMC for the first time. You can read about it in the D-MATH News and you can check out the results at IMC 2025.

We will likely send a team to IMC 2026 (Jul 27 - Aug 3 2026). Details on selection and funding will be communicated in the spring semester.
Get in touch with me or join the Math Olympiad club if you want to represent ETH at IMC 2026.

ICMC - Imperial-Cambridge Mathematics Competition

The ICMC is a remote competition that is held annually in November (with a second round in February) at universities across Europe.
In November 2025, ETH participated in the ICMC for the first time with a turnout of 82 students. You can read about it in the D-MATH News.
11 ETH students qualified for the Second Round. Here are the (anonymized) results of the First and Second Round.

Bernoulli Competition

The Bernoulli Competition is an annual competition at EPFL that serves as the team selection test for EPFL's IMC team(s).

Other university-level competitions

See here for an overview of other competitions (as well as plenty of past problems to practice).

Competitions for High School students

If you are a high school student, check out the ETH Math Youth Academy.
